With the mild winters here it seems strange to think I’d hunkered down and have now spent the month of April emerging from the gloom, but that’s how it seems.

The first weekend of April my parents came for a special long weekend escape from the extreme Wisconsin winter. We had a great time exploring new parts of downtown, including the Marriott Marquis hotel and checking the progress of spring at Arabia Mountain. They were also the first to receive the full-on Thailand recap, complete with SB’s fantastic massaman curry.

The following weekend SB and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary with a long weekend on the coast, exploring Savannah, Tybee Island and Hilton Head Island. Our first night we joined a haunted pub tour, wandering the bars of Savannah, hearing ghost stories and the history of the town. We didn’t see anything supernatural but others on the tour did, which made for much fun. The next day we explored Fort Pulaski where civil war re-enactors were shooting guns, firing cannons and making bugle calls. In Hilton Head we loved standing on the edge of water again and realized that we can be to the ocean in just under four hours.

The weekend after that we found Lola and since then it has been one change after another as we all learn to live and love a puppy.

In other notes, the TV house next door is now officially on the market. We went to an open house on Sunday and found what we expected, half-finished, poorly done trim work and a layout lacking the vision of a designer who wants to live in that space. I hope it sells but wonder who will be attracted to a house like that.

In May we welcome a weekend house guest, in town to see Alton Brown, and we have big plans for our first major home improvement project, adding a screened porch to the back of our house.

  2. Oh I can’t wait to see your screened porch project. As much as we want to change ours to a sun room (after all, we can only use our screened porch for 1 season), I love the way it feels to be out there and not get bitten by mosquitos!

You have to tell me what Alton Brown is like. I have a secret crush on him ;) (not secret anymore!)
